Stuart co-founded Obsidian Strategies after developing an expansive and successful 20 years of elite experience in high threat environments. Stuart sets himself apart as a demonstrated expert and consummate professional in all facets of mission planning, organizing, managing, and executing complex security operations in global threat situations. He has international experience which encompasses real-world applications operationally, strategically, and tactically within the fields of military and law enforcement operations.
Stuart developed his military expertise while serving in Special Operations as an Officer assigned to one of the highest priority combat units in the military. Stuart has led troops in intense combat situations, training, and Counter-terror tactics. His solid reputation and elite experience is known internationally among Special Operators and is highly regarded, revered, and respected.
Stuart has spent a decade developing, perfecting, and enhancing a comprehensive aviation security training program for a major part 121 air carrier. This work has become a national model for integrated, behavioral-based crew member security programs throughout US commercial aviation.
Since 2003, Stuart has been an active duty law enforcement officer assigned to Homeland Security and Counter-terror duties in one of the nation’s most notorious violent crime cities. During his Law Enforcement career he was tasked to stand up a Criminal Intelligence Unit for his agency which collects, analyzes, and mitigates threat information while operating within the federal and state intelligence and counterterrorism frameworks.
As a result of his extensive experience in the security and counterterrorism fields, Stuart is highly sought after as a regular instructor and speaker on the topics of limited signature operations, urban and covert surveillance, aviation security, crew member self defense, rapid-cognition and behavioral assessment, threat mitigation and risk management, psychology and history of terrorism, and counterterrorism.
Stuart has professional experience conducting executive protective services, including having performed protective details for multiple Presidents of the United States, Prime Ministers of Israel, as well as other high profile politicians, dignitaries, and celebrities.
Stuart is fluent in three languages and has conducted threat assessments and protection operations in North America, South America, Asia, and the Middle East since 1990.
Nick is a military veteran with over 20 years serving with the Office of Naval Intelligence, both active duty and reserve. He retired from the Navy as a career Intelligence professional.
Nick brings a wealth of experience to the Obsidian Strategies team. His extensive Intelligence career has afforded him practical application in real-world threat environments. His military Intelligence assignments have included serving during the Gulf War, the Kosovo Campaign, Operation Enduring Freedom, and the Global War on Terrorism.
Throughout his career, he established himself not only as a decorated Intelligence professional, but highly respected among his colleagues. He began his military career as an enlisted Intelligence Specialist, attaining to the rank of Chief Intelligence Specialist. He received a commission as an Intelligence Officer, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant. He has served in the following leadership capacities; Executive Officer, Command Chief, Operations Officer, Security Manager, and Training Officer.
Nick has an extensive background in Intelligence analysis, geopolitical assessments, counter-terrorism, targeting, threat assessments, briefing, mission planning, and homeland security. His duty assignments have included the Joint Intelligence Center Pacific, US Southern Command, Atlantic Intelligence Center, the Tactical Support Center in Sigonella, Italy, and the Office of Naval Intelligence in Washington, DC.
He has spent the past eleven years applying his experience toward criminal Intelligence. He regularly conducts training and briefings to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in Intelligence tactics, analysis, and operations. He has experience in writing Standard Operating Procedures and managing command post operations.
Phillip is a highly decorated veteran police officer with over 14 years of experience in one of the most violent crime cities in America. He spent over a decade assigned to a Special Operations Tactical Unit, serving as the Team Leader and Primary Instructor. He has extensive experience in High Risk Entry, Hostage Rescue, Barricaded Persons, Dignitary Protection, Homeland Security and Risk Management.
Phillip is certified as a breaching instructor, firearms instructor, tactics instructor, and has held classes for his agency’s Organized Crime Unit where he developed a Mechanical Breaching Course which earned law enforcement educational accreditation. Additionally, Phillip has instructed law enforcement in the use and deployment of less-lethal munitions and diversionary devices. As a Special Operations Team Leader, Phillip worked closely with incoming dignitaries and U.S. Secret Service agents to conduct site assessments and venue security. Phillip has worked private protection security as detail leader, advance agent and personal protection officer to provide protection for elected officials, high profile celebrities and business executives. Phillip has recently been assigned to his department's Office of Homeland Security Unit as a Detective where he investigates potential criminal activity involving Domestic and international Terrorism, Sovereign citizen movement, and specific hate groups. Additionally as a Detective for Homeland Security he works closely with local, Federal Agencies in the areas of counter-terrorism and dignitary protection.
Phillip regularly develops, trains, and implements Active Shooter and Emergency Response Plans for educational institutions. In the capacity as a Security Threat Consultant to many colleges and universities, he works to train campus law enforcement in threat mitigation, active shooter identification and tactical response.
His extensive experience includes coordination efforts of a high profile, high threat, international athletic event that hosted over 2000 athletes, parents and coaches from numerous states, as well as several foreign countries. He facilitated threat assessments and protective security measures which encompassed five locations and over 100 acres of secured facility and athletic venues.
Phillip's extensive work in Operational Planning of threat assessments earned him, “Special Operations Officer of the Year”. This prestigious award is a testament to his hard work and dedication that he diligently applies to every client mission at Obsidian Strategies.
Ron S. Kerr, Esq – Chief Legal Counsel for Obsidian Strategies. Mr. Kerr is a graduate of the Nashville School of Law (JD), Vanderbilt University School of Business (MBA), and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He has 25 years of legal and business experience concentrated in Real Estate and small business operations. Mr. Kerr is also a Captain in the United States Navy Reserve with 28 years of experience in the Intelligence Community.
Ron’s career as an Intelligence Officer has included assignments to Special Operations commands, the Pentagon, Secretary of Defense staff, and Joint Operational Commands throughout the Intelligence Community. His wealth of Intelligence experience, coupled with his business background and legal expertise, makes Ron an invaluable asset to the Obsidian Strategies team.
Cynthia Storer served as an analyst at the Central Intelligence Agency for 20 years - more than a decade of that time specializing in global terrorism and South Asia. She received an Intelligence Commendation medal for her “groundbreaking work” on terrorism in 1999.
Cindy's experience at the CIA has included threat assessments, network analysis, deep expertise on jihadi groups and terrorism, a significant role in modeling radicalization, support to operations, and frequent communication with political and military leaders at all levels, to include special operators and the President of the United States. In addition, Cindy has developed and taught courses in analysis for counter-terrorism.
Upon retiring from the CIA in 2007, Cindy continued her research and education roles in private industry and academia. Her professional experience has included developing and providing courses on critical thinking and analysis throughout the US.
Cindy has gone on to become a noted public speaker, having delivered speeches, training, and instruction to federal, state and local government analysts and leaders. Currently, Cindy is developing and teaching courses for Johns Hopkins University’s graduate certificate program in Intelligence, consulting with the International Spy Museum, and continuing to lecture and speak on intelligence, terrorism, data, and analysis. You may have seen her in the HBO documentary Manhunt, as well as numerous other documentaries and news show appearances.
